September 2008 ©2008 www.runmt.com September 6, 2008, Saturday Five Valleys Fun Run/Walk Challenge Series of Five Races • Missoula, Race 5 - Run for Youth 5K/10K Fun Run, 5K Walk, Missoula Parks and Recreation, 721-PARK (7275) www.missoulaparks.org 19th Annual Chokecherry Run • Lewistown, Races include 10K, 5K run. 5K walk, and l mile fun run. 10K and 5K races start at 9:00 a.m. One mile start is 10:00. Registration fee: $5 by Sept 7th or $10 the day of the race. $10 for a T-shirt is optional. 10K follows Spring Creek and is overall downhill, 5K’s have some hills. 10 different age categories. Race day registration is at the Frank Day Park from 7:30 am to 8:30am. John Colter Run • Headwaters State Park, 7 Mile, 9:00 am at the Missouri Headwaters State Park, one mile south of Trident and about 6 miles northeast of Three Forks, MT. Entry Fee $20. Entry deadline: August 22, 2008 www.universalathletic.com Swan Crest 57 • Swan Lake, 57K Trail Run, starting promptly at 7:00 am. This run is self-supported and unmarked! There are NO AID STATIONS and NO COURSE MARKINGS! The run starts at Napa Point (elev. 6500ft) on the crest of the Swan Mountain Range at the southern end of the Alpine Trail #7. The course covers 51k of the southern half of the Alpine Trail with an ascent of Six Mile Mountain before you descend to the town of Swan Lake. The run consists of 51k of single track, 5k of FS dirt road and 1k of pavement into town, finishing at the SLCC. You’ll climb 8000’ and descend 11,000’ during your run. There are numerous water sources along the course, no farther than 10 miles apart. As you are running north you will be treated with views of Glacier National Park and the Bob Marshall Wilderness to the East, and the Mission Mountains and Flathead Lake to the West. Cost: $50.00. Helena Classic • Helena, presented by the Helena Running Club. 10:00 a.m. start, race day registration/packet pick up beginning at 8:30 a.m. at Gourmet to Go, 48 N. Last Chance Gulch. This 5.6 mile course starts on historic Last Chance Gulch in downtown Helena. It quickly changes from urban running to mountain trail running in Mt. Helena City Park. The course takes runners to the top of Mt. Helena, 1,300 feet above the starting line, and offers outstanding views of the City of Helena, Prickly Pear Valley, and Elkhorn and Belt Mountains. The course then descends back to the finish area on Last Chance Gulch. Entry fee is $18 ($23 after September 10). Friends and family discounted fees available prior to September 10. The 4 mile run/fun run starts at 09:30 am. The loop course is fast, and rolling. USATF certification pending. Prizes for top 4 mile finishers. Prizes for all kids run finishers. Start/Finish at the Arrowhead School. Strollers are allowed, headphones are prohibited. Contact the race director at runlikethewind@wispwest.net. T-shirts will be available with packet pick up for those who register prior to September 4, and will be mailed after the race for those registering after September 4. 11th Annual Pete’s Fall Fest “Race for Play” • Kalispell, 1mi, 5k & 10k and fun kids’ carnival. Organized by Parents of Peterson Students (POPS). Proceeds to go towards purchase of new playground structures for Peterson Elementary School. $12 per person or $40 for and family of four and $6 per additional family member. Buses for 10k and 5k begin loading at 9 am and 9:30 am. 1 mi starts at 11:30 am and begins and ends at Peterson School. Prizes for all elementary-aged kids participating in race, Awards for 1st – 3rd place finishers in all kid divisions. Awards for overall teen and adult male and female finishers in each race. Kids’ carnival 10:30 am – 1:30 pm. No entrance fee for carnival, but tickets are 50 cents each. Pizza lunch served and is $2.50 for non-racers. Race day registration is available, but please register before September 13. Adventure Bio-thon Run/Walk/Hike • Stevensville, MT 8:00 am. Choose between a short course (2-3 miles) or along course (3-5 miles). Located in the Lee Metcalf National Wildlife Refuge. Bio-thon starts and finishes at Refuge Visitors Center on Wildfowl Lane. This is a low key family friendly event that takes teams of 2-5 into the back country of the Lee Metcalf National Wildlife Refuge. The race tests both your physical abilities and your general knowledge of nature. Registration fee $10 for individuals or $30 for teams of 2-5. Day of registration begins at 7:30am. The course will follow the parade route to the University, where we will run through the Univerisity. 5th Annual Burn the Bird • Great Falls 5k/10k, NEW ROUTE! START: 8:00 a.m. at Fish, Wildlife and Parks Headquarters in Great Falls, 4600 Giant Springs Road. THE FIRST 150 ENTRANTS will receive a pair of running socks, miscellaneous nutrition goodies and a $5 donation to River’s Edge Trail included in the $15 entry fee.
