Rattlesnake Resolution RunMissoula, 11a.m. New Years Day. Rattlesnake Elementary School. Welcome to the Rattlesnake Resolution Run! 5k and 10k. We are excited to introduce this fun and family friendly event as a Missoula New Years Day tradition. There will be an 11am start for both races so you can sleep in after ringing in the New Year. Both courses  wind through the Rattlesnake Valley on a mixture of roads and trails. Participants start and Finish at the Rattlesnake Elementary School. $20 for the 5k, $25 for the 10k through 12/20/11. $10 for Kids 12 and under. All participants receive a 2012 Runners Edge Running Log along with a Ceramic Soup Bowl and Spoon, which can be used for the post race soup feed!  The awards ceremony for overall winners, and top three in each age group, will occur in the School Cafeteria during the feed. Equinox Snow Challenge • West Yellowstone. 3 Hour, 6 Hour, 12, Hour and 24 Hour divisions open to soloists and team relays. This event is held on groomed nordic ski trails and is open to skiers, bikers and runners.  Snowshoes are recommended but not required. Happy Trails  • Missoula,  at Maclay Flatts.  The course for Happy Trails 5K is a three person relay, each team member will run a little over one mile. All participants are able to come prepared with a team or be sorted into teams the day of. Individuals are also welcome. Registration is from 10:00-10:45 am and the race will begin at 11:00am. The race fee is $20 per person, and all proceeds will benefit Missoula Habitat for Humanity. GrizzlyMan Adventure Race & Black Bear Challenge • Greenough.  5 am/9am. The 5th Annual GrizzlyMan Adventure Race (GMAR), brought to you by The Rocky Mountaineers, will take place at the 28,000-acre Lubrecht Experimental Forest & 37,000-acre The Resort at Paws Up.  Nestled in the mountains of western Montana, this combined 65,000-acre rugged landscape will provide a challenging venue to racers of all skill levels. We are excited to announce that the 2012 GMAR will once again be a 12 hour race!  With a 5:00am start time and more checkpoints than you thought possible, participants will be put to the ultimate navigation and endurance test!  GMAR participants should expect 12 hours of trail running, cross country travel, whitewater paddling, navigation, and mountain biking.  The GMAR will be a qualifier for 2012 USARA Nationals!  The Black Bear Challenge will be a less intense 6 hour course for racers interested in an introduction to adventure racing.  The Black Bear will start at 9 am, have the same format as the GMAR, but will not include paddling or water navigation.  Both races are sanctioned USARA events. West Valley Spring Run Off  and Trivial Pursuit • Kalispell. Race distance: 5k and almost 12k (because our math is a little off).  Both Races Start at 9am in the West Valley School parking lot. Run in the scenic West Valley of beautiful Kalispell.  The 5K is an out and back course on a meandering walking path along a country road.  The 12K starts on the walking path and turns up into the hills that edge the West Valley area, then circles back to the start. It promises to be challenging, but well worth the effort!  This race has no place prizes, to win a prize you have to be the first one back to the finish who can answer trivia questions posted along the course. You have to be fast and smart! Bozeman Canine Classic • Bozeman. Start your spring training off right - Bozeman's K9 9K - yes! that's right. A 9K for your DOGS (and you too!). It will be 1/2 on low traffic roads and 1/2 on Bozeman's great trail system. Ends in Bogert Park with a HUGE DOG festival for everyone. Proceeds from this event will benefit: Gallatin Valley Land Trust, Heart of the Valley animal shelter and Morris Animal Foundation's Canine Cancer Campaign. 3rd Annual Vigilante Mile & 5k • Helena, Registration opens at 8:00 am at the S. entrance of the State Capitol, on the 1300 block of Lockey. 5k race starts at 9:00 am, followed by the 1 Mile event at 10:00 am. Inspired by Helena's historic Vigilante Parade, the Vigilante Mile and 5k serve as fundraisers for the proposed Montana Heritage Center and the Helena Vigilante Runners. Both races start and finish at the Capitol building, and travel past the Montana Historical Society’s current and proposed museum sites. The courses are accurately measured, well-marked, and interesting. $15 entry fee covers one or both events. Awards and refreshments follow. 10th Anniversary Children's Health River Run • Livingston. Join The Patricia Coleman Foundation as we celebrate our tenth 5k and 10K race in Livingston. The race  starts and finishes in Sacagawea Park along the Yellowstone River.  A children's 1/2 Mile fun run starts at 9am. The 5k and 10k for runners and walkers starts after the kids run (usually about 9:20A). Sign up by Apr. 27th and you get our 10th Anniversary Hoodie Sweatshirt as an alternative to the t-shirt. Wulfman's Continental Divide Trail 14K • Butte, A point to point, single-track race on the beautiful section of Continental Divide National Scenic Trail between Homestake Pass and Pipestone Pass. Butte's Piss & Moan Runners are a joyous group who treat this race as the club's premier event of the year. Hard core trail runners do not rate this trail as "technical," and in the immortal words of the club's late and beloved Wulfman "there is just one hill." Route is run north to south in even numbered years. Bussing provided from finish back to car parking area. Race entry also buys you access to post-race picnic at the Homestake Lodge. Carnivorous and vegetarian fare available with beverages including microbrewed beer. Awards ceremony also included with unique top 5 overall, top 5 forty-plus age-graded, and age-group prizes. $600 total prize purse and prize for closest finish time prediction and other unusual categories. Beartooth Run • Red Lodge, Moves back to its classic date this year. 8.4 mile run and 4.2 mile up the Epic Beartooth Pass. Registration opens March  1st $35 dollars  March 1st -  June 9th. Late registration $40 dollars June 10th – 16th. Registration closes June 17th and there is no day of registration. Registration includes dry fit t-shirt. Lolo Pass Mountain to Meadow Half Marathon and 5k Fun Run • Lolo Pass. If you are looking for a race that combines scenic beauty with history, log onto www.runlolopass.org for information about the Mountain to Meadow Half Marathon and 5k Fun Run. The event begins at the Lolo Pass visitor center (elevation 5225 feet) on highway 12 near the Idaho/Montana border. The half marathon winds for 13 miles through forests of Engleman Spruce and Subalpine fir with dramatic views of the Bitterroot mountains in the distance. Both the  5k (out and back) and the 13 mile course will pass by Packer meadows a historic site along the Nez Perce and Lewis and Clark trails.  Log onto www.runlolopass.org to register and for more information.
 

Thunderbolt Creek 50k and 50k relay • Helena, 8am. This is an out and back 50k on a very scenic non- technical trail approx.- 3-4000 ft. of climb. Maybe the fastest trail 50k in Montana. 1st year so start a tradition now. If you love trail running this is must for your calendar limited to 150 runners. The Dirty Dash • Billings, at Metrapark, 308 6th Avenue North. The Dirty Dash is a mud run obstacle course where a military boot camp meets participant’s inner five-year-old’s fantasy and subsequently converts boy to man and then man to swine. The Dirty Dash holds events in Salt Lake City, UT; Seattle, WA; Spokane, WA; Boise, ID; Missoula, MT; Billings, MT; Eugene, OR, Albuquerque, NM; and Colorado Springs, CO. This course is about 4 miles. Doozies include walls to climb over or crawl under, mud hills to climb, pipes to crawl through, pipes to crawl over and under, giant slip ‘n slides to launch down, cargo nets to maneuver, Hometown obstacles specific to the stomping ground, beers to chug, root beers to chug, balance beams, mud pits to dive into and much, much more. Entry fees are $40 before 3/21/2012, $45 before 5/30/2012 and $50 before 8/7/2012. There is a kid’s race, Piglet Plunge, for children age 2 and under age 12. Registration is a measly $5. The Piglet Plunge will be about 1 mile and will include some of the best obstacles to ensure a thoroughly muddy child: the Slop n' Slide, the Hog Wash and the Pig Sty. All children must be respectful of other children, pushing or splashing will result in being removed from the kids' race area for the day and subject to grounding at their parents’ discretion. Bull Run Relay and Half Marathon • Stanford. The 26.2 mile relay for up to 4 person teams begins 1 mile off Hwy 541 approximately 6 miles from Windham or 18 miles from Hobson at 6:30am. Signs will be posted. The route runs on a county-maintained gravel road through the Little Belt Mountains, promising one of the most scenic courses runners will ever encounter. The half-marathon also begins at 6:30am at the half-way point of the relay race. Both races end at the Judith Basin County Fairgrounds in Stanford where the CMR Stampede PRCA Rodeo will begin at 1:30pm. Food and refreshments will be available for all race participants. Course has rolling hills with a net uphill on the way out, then downhill on the way back. You will cross the Blacfoot River twice, once with an opportunity to get your feet wet. Book’n Down Main Missoula. Come join the fun at the Friends of Missoula Public Library’s inaugural  run on behalf of reading! There will be an 8K and a 3K Family Fun Run. The 8K run starts at 10:00 a.m. and the 3K starts at 10:30; both races leave from the library parking lot, 301 E. Main.  Courses follow the Kim Williams Trail along the beautiful Clark Fork River. Prizes given for top finishers, a random prize drawing after the race, music and refreshments for all! 8th Annual XTERRA Wild Horse Creek (off-road)Hyalite Reservoir, near Bozeman; 1200-yd swim, 16-mi MTB, 6-mi Trail Run; Race begins at 8:15am

Sidney Duathlon • Sidney. - 5k run-10k bike-5k run. This Run-Bike-Run will start at 8 am mountain time with registration beginning at 7am to 7:45 on Saturday, August 4th at Veterans Park in Sidney. It is competitive with prize money for the top places for individuals and teams and many door prizes. The race will begin at Veterans Park with a 5k that will go through the Richland County Fairgrounds during this year’s fair, then the 10k bike portion will begin on asphalt with 2/3 of the 10k being gravel and the final 5k run will follow the same path as the first 5k. Individuals, teams of two and teams of three can compete in this race in their respective divisions. Registration is $20 per person and leashed pets/strollers are allowed. 10th Whitefish Friends and Family Fun Run/Walk • Whitefish.  9:00 AM start. This family oriented event features a 10K run, 5K run/walk and a 1 mile family walk and is perfect for all ages and abilities. This event is put on by the Flathead Performance Youth Foundation in association with Northwest Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. All proceeds from this event benefit the Child Development Center in Kalispell and the Shepherd's Hand Clinic in Whitefish. Competitive Timing will be providing the timing services for this event. 37th Mount Helena Classic • Helena. This 5.6 mile course starts on historic Last Chance Gulch in downtown Helena. It quickly changes from urban running to mountain trail running in Mt. Helena City Park. The course takes runners to the top of Mt. Helena, 1,300 feet above the starting line, and offers outstanding views of the City of Helena, Prickly Pear Valley, and Elkhorn and Belt Mountains. The course then descends back to the finish area on Last Chance Gulch. Start Time: 10:00 am Entry Fee: $20 if received by 9/12/2012, $25 after 9/12/2012

The Dirty Dash  • Missoula at the Missoula Equestrian Park, 3500 North Ave West . The Dirty Dash is a mud run obstacle course where a military boot camp meets participant’s inner five-year-old’s fantasy and subsequently converts boy to man and then man to swine. The Dirty Dash holds events in Salt Lake City, UT; Seattle, WA; Spokane, WA; Boise, ID; Missoula, MT; Billings, MT; Eugene, OR, Albuquerque, NM; and Colorado Springs, CO. This course is about 4 miles. Doozies include walls to climb over or crawl under, mud hills to climb, pipes to crawl through, pipes to crawl over and under, giant slip ‘n slides to launch down, cargo nets to maneuver, Hometown obstacles specific to the stomping ground, beers to chug, root beers to chug, balance beams, mud pits to dive into and much, much more. Entry fees are $40 before 3/21/2012, $45 before 5/30/2012 and $50 before 8/7/2012. There is a kid’s race, Piglet Plunge, for children age 2 and under age 12. Registration is a measly $5. The Piglet Plunge will be about 1 mile and will include some of the best obstacles to ensure a thoroughly muddy child: the Slop n' Slide, the Hog Wash and the Pig Sty. All children must be respectful of other children, pushing or splashing will result in being removed from the kids' race area for the day and subject to grounding at their parents’ discretion. (SHATS) Race #4 - Goat Pursuit • Helena,  9 AM. Mt. Helena Ridge Run, 6.6 miles point to point time-trial format. The trolley shuttle will leave the Helena Public Library at 8 am to carry runners to the top. The course starts with switchbacks up to the Helena Ridge, the rest of the course is primarily downhill on moderately technical singletrack, finishing at Dump Gulch Trailhead. This race is run as a time trial format - a runner will start every 30 seoconds, starting with the slowest runner. If this is your first race in the series, please send a recent 10k or 12k time.
