TRI the New Year • Missoula The Missoula Family YMCA will host the 1st Annual ‘TRI the New Year’ Indoor Triathlon on New Years Day 2010!  This event will be held indoors and based on time.  The swim will be 8 minutes in the pool, the bike will be on LeMond spin bikes for 22 minutes and the run will be on the indoor track for 15 minutes.  Transitions between each event will be times as well.  The first wave will start promptly at 10 a.m. and consist of 8-12 participants.  Entry fees are $20.00 for members and $30 for nonmembers.  Register online at www.ymcamissoula.org/ or at the Welcome Center before Wednesday December 30th.  Please contact Dennis Bender, bender3_5377@q.com or 721-9622 for any questions or special requests.

HURL Fat Ass 50 km • Helena, Start/finish at 815 11th Ave, Helena, Montana. One 31 mile loop with 2,400 feet of ascent on frozen/snow-packed/icy paved or dirt roads. Relay options available include the two-person Half Ass Relay and the multi-person Skinny Ass Relay. Fat Ass rules apply: No fee, no aid or support, no awards, no wimps, no weenies, no whiners. Powder Hound Winter Triathlon • Butte 9:00 AM Start,, 5K Run, 10K Mt. Bike, 5K XC Ski, Co-Sponsored by Homestake Lodge and The Bozeman Tritons Triathlon Team. Entry Fees by 1/17/10 (higher after that date): Individual $45, Team of Two $65, Team of Three $85.This event will be run at the Homestake Lodge; Montana's newest Cross Country Ski Center. The courses will be on the x-c ski trails and forest service roads. They will wind through woods, meadows and include some steep ascents and descents. Race Entry includes one trip through the Homestake Lodge Soup and Sandwhich Bar and a day trail pass. Showers available after the event, bring your own towel. Third Annual SAINT PATRICK’S DAY DASH Great Falls – 2 mile and 4 mile races. 10:00 a.m. race start on Saturday March 13th. April Fool Rush In Fun Run • Bozeman, There will be a 5k at 10 a.m. and a 1 Mile at 11 a.m. The race will be held at the East Gallatin Recreation Center and all proceeds benefit the Cancer Center in the Bozeman Deaconess Hospital. Anyone can come and race and the best costume (April Fools themed) will be rewarded! Our Group is the Bozeman Rotary Interact Club from the Bozeman High School. We have done auctions for the past few years- one of which we raise over $20,000 for the Cancer Center. We hope to continue our donations! Superfun(d) Run Bonner,10K, 5K and 1 mile fun run. Come celebrate spring, community and the new trails in Bonner at the 2nd annual Superfun(d) Run. GrizzlyMan Adventure Race & Black Bear Challenge • Greenough, (near Missoula) 7 am. The 3rd Annual GrizzlyMan Adventure Race, brought to you by The Rocky Mountaineers, will take place at the 28,000-acre Lubrecht Experimental Forest & The Resort at Paws Up. Nestled in the mountains of western Montana, this combined 65,000-acre rugged landscape will provide a challenging venue to racers of all skill levels. Racers can compete solo or as 2 person teams (non-relay). GrizzlyMan Adventure Racers should expect 6-12 hours of trail running, cross country travel, whitewater paddling, navigation, and mountain biking. This is a United States Adventure Racing Association (USARA) sanctioned event with the top three coed teams qualifying for the 2010 USARA National Championships in Hidden Valley, Pennsylvania. The winning coed team will receive $400 towards their 2010 USARA National Championship registration. The Black Bear Challenge is a slightly less intense 2-4 hour course for racers interested in an introduction to adventure racing. The Black Bear Challenge will not include paddling or water navigation. Racers should expect trail running, cross country travel, navigation, and mountain biking. 3rd annual Bust-A-Gut 5K • Missoula, Registration starts at 7:30 am (race day only) at the Oval on The University of Montana campus. Race fee is $10, which includes breakfast (before or after). Race begins at 9:00 am on the UM oval. The route continues from the oval over to and down the Kim Williams Trail to Orange Street and back. The corresponding Pancake Breakfast will be held at Christ the King Church on the corner of Beckwith and Gerald. Tickets for the Pancake Breakfast only are $5.00 or 4 for $15.00 (kids 6 and under eat free!). All proceeds go to UM Physical Therapy graduate student scholarships. runmt.com featured race -- gASPing for AIR 5K Fun Run/Walk Missoula, 5K Fun Run near the University of Montana. Registration/check-in will begin at 10 am with the race beginning at 11:00 am. The purpose of this event is to raise community awareness about asthma. Money raised will be used to send children in the Missoula area with asthma to the Montana YMCA asthma summer camp. Race t-shirts will be available for early registrants and asthma education will also be provided during the event. The race registration tables and start location will be at the Southside River Trail (Kim Williams Trail) near the footbridge by the UM Campus. Run for the Earth 10k, 5k & 1mileBozeman, start & finish will be in at Story Mansion located on the corner of Wilson & College.  Races begin at 10am. Race day registration will be from 8:45am-9:45am. Costs are $15 if register on or before April 15th.  Registration day of, or after the 15th will be $20 per participant.  T-Shirts with “Gallatin Earth Celebration” logo will be provided on Race Day to those who register before April 9th.  Shirts may have to be mailed to participants who register after the 9th.  The purpose of the event is to promote Earth Week and increase sustainable efforts at Montana State University & the city of Bozeman.  The 10k will include “hospital hill” and both the 10k and the 5k will include some trail running.  There will be 2 water stations on the 10k course and 1 on the 5k course.  For more information or to register contact Deb Crawford at 406-994-6653 or decrawford@montana.edu. Rocky Mountain Bank Summit Classic 5K/10K Kalispell, RunStarts at 1pm at the Summit Medical Fitness Center. The Summit Classic is a 5-Kilometer and 10 Kilometer Walk/Jog/Run community event on the paved streets and trails surrounding The Summit. All ages and all abilities are invited to participate. This is a competitive event for the whole family. Participants who cross the finish line will receive an accurate finish time and a Rocky Mountain Bank Summit Classic T-shirt. This event is a community gathering where people of all ages and abilities come together to test their fitness levels and enjoy a great run through the neighborhoods of Kalispell, Montana. Wounded Warriors Project Helena, 10K, 5K & 1 Mile event & Trifecta.  Capital High School Student Council is putting on a Wounded Warriors Project 10K, 5K and 1 Mile event.  We will start from Northwest Park across from Capital High School at 8:45 am, for the 10K, 10:00 for the 5K and 10:45 for the 1 Mile. Vigilante Mile • Helena, 1 mile race starts at 9:00 am at the S. entrance of the State Capitol, on the 1300 block of Lockey.  New in 2010, the Vigilante Mile will be Helena’s first competitive off-track mile (runners of all speeds welcome).  The race consists of a single loop around the Capitol Complex on a sidewalk-like fitness path.  The course will be accurate, scenic, well-marked, and interesting, and should lend itself to some pretty quick times.  The mile is being organized by the Helena Vigilante Runners for the purpose of raising funds for the new historical society building.  This is a no-frills event, allowing us to keep race entries at just $10.  Registration begins at 8:30.  Results will be available promptly.  For planning purposes, RSVPs from potentially interested runners are appreciated. Last year almost 7,000 women of all ages hit the streets on the day before Mother’s Day in mutual pursuit of health and fitness, camaraderie and medals! Third Annual Buffalo Jump • Ulm, near Great Falls – ½ Marathon, 10K Run & 3 mile Walk at the First People’s Buffalo Jump off exit 270 on Interstate 15. 9:00 a.m. race start for the ½ marathon and 9:45 a.m. race start for the 10K run and 3 mile walk on Sunday May 23rd. The ½ marathon and 10K races involve rolling, dirt and paved roads near the First People Buffalo Jump in Ulm with beautiful views of Square Butte and the Big Belt & Little Belt Mountains. The 3 mile walk involves a primitive trail along the base of the Buffalo Jump cliff. TNT Hiawatha Trail Run • Taft, (I-90 Montana/Idaho state line) The TNT (Tunnels N Trestles) Trail Run will be held on the Hiawatha trail located adjacent to I-90 at the Idaho/Montana state line. The course will run thought 10 tunnels and over 7 trestles with a distance of 28.2 miles. The path is made up of crushed granite also known as decomposed granite. The trail is fairly flat side to side and about 8 feet in width, a descent of 967 feet down to the turn around and 1000 feet of climbing back to the top for the finish. 2nd Annual Montana Made Run • Missoula, Come out to McCormick Park in the heart of Missoula and start your Saturday right by participating. The race supports and features Montana Made Business and Products, with all proceeds raised go to the International Association of Firefighters Burn Foundation. Your choice: a 5K or 10K distance. Don't leave the kids at home either as the kids run is around McCormick Park before the adults run. Both the 5K and 10K are stroller and dog friendly, we just ask that the strollers and dogs line up at the rear of the pack and the dogs are on leashes. Race For This Place • White Sulphur Springs, The White Sulphur Springs Community Fund is kicking off the 4th annual Race For This Place fun run/walk. This race is about community support and fun, so runners and walkers of all abilities are welcome. This years race will benefit the Stevens Youth Center, a free afterschool program for Meagher county youth that includes gardening, cooking, arts and crafts, and games. The race will start at 7:30 AM with a 15k, 5K and 1M Run/Walk. The 5k and the 1 mile run/walk are an out and back course over the North fork of the Smith River and along highway 360. The 15k will be run on mostly dirt roads west of town. It is a scenic run through surrounding ranchland with spectacular views of the Big Belt and Castle Mountains. 35th Mount Helena Classic 5.6 Mile Run • Helena, presented by the Helena Vigilante Runners.  10:00 am start, race day registration/packet pick up beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Base Camp, 5 W. Broadway. This 5.6 mile course starts on historic Last Chance Gulch in downtown Helena. It quickly changes from urban running to mountain trail running in Mt. Helena City Park.  The course takes runners to the top of Mt. Helena, 1,300 feet above the starting line, and offers outstanding views of the City of Helena, Prickly Pear Valley, and Elkhorn and Belt Mountains. Drop and Trot Bozeman, 10k and 5k race through south Bozeman. 5k runners can drop and do pushups for a minute before the run. This is the fourth annual trail run on Homestake Lodge’s trail system. The course will be on the x-c ski trails and will wind through woods, meadows and include some steep ascents/descents. Blue Mountain 30k Missoula, Start Time: 8:30 a.m. Venue: Start/Finish area will be at: Peak Health and Wellness Center Located at 5000 Blue Mountain Rd. Missoula, Course: Course starts at Peak Health and Wellness Center then follows Blue Mountain Rd. for half of a mile to the Blue Mountain Recreation Area trailhead. From there the course follows single track dirt trails with multiple climbs on a loop through the recreation area. The course finishes with another half mile on the BLue Mountain Rd. returning back to the finish Line at the Peak Health and Wellness Center. The trolley shuttle will leave the Helena Public Library at 8 am to carry runners to the top. The course starts with switchbacks up to the Helena Ridge, the rest of the course is primarily downhill on moderately technical singletrack, finishing at Dump Gulch Trailhead.
