Peaks to Prairie • The traditional Peaks to Prairie is a unique Montana race that's run-bike-boat. Athletes compete either as a soloist or in teams. Additionally, there is a Duathlon that consists of the run-bike legs of the first two legs of the traditional Peaks race. The race opens with an 8.8 mile run in the rarified air and in the shadow of the majestic Beartooth Mountains. Spectators cheer the runners into the resort community Red Lodge for the run-bike transition.Athletes then hop on bikes to ride 43 miles through farm and ranch country to Riverside Park, south of Laurel. The Duathlon ends there. For the traditional Peaks athletes, they face one more grueling leg ... paddling 23 miles on the last of America's undimmed natural waterways to the finish at Coulson Park in Billings. www.peakstoprairie.org
