TRI the New Year • Missoula The Missoula Family YMCA will host the 1st Annual ‘TRI the New Year’ Indoor Triathlon on New Years Day 2010!  This event will be held indoors and based on time.  The swim will be 8 minutes in the pool, the bike will be on LeMond spin bikes for 22 minutes and the run will be on the indoor track for 15 minutes.  Transitions between each event will be times as well.  The first wave will start promptly at 10 a.m. and consist of 8-12 participants.  Entry fees are $20.00 for members and $30 for nonmembers.  Register online at www.ymcamissoula.org/ or at the Welcome Center before Wednesday December 30th.  Please contact Dennis Bender, bender3_5377@q.com or 721-9622 for any questions or special requests.

Superfun(d) Run • Bonner,10K, 5K and 1 mile fun run. Come celebrate spring, community and the new trails in Bonner at the 2nd annual Superfun(d) Run. GrizzlyMan Adventure Race & Black Bear Challenge • Greenough, (near Missoula) 7 am. The 3rd Annual GrizzlyMan Adventure Race, brought to you by The Rocky Mountaineers, will take place at the 28,000-acre Lubrecht Experimental Forest & The Resort at Paws Up. Nestled in the mountains of western Montana, this combined 65,000-acre rugged landscape will provide a challenging venue to racers of all skill levels. Racers can compete solo or as 2 person teams (non-relay). GrizzlyMan Adventure Racers should expect 6-12 hours of trail running, cross country travel, whitewater paddling, navigation, and mountain biking. This is a United States Adventure Racing Association (USARA) sanctioned event with the top three coed teams qualifying for the 2010 USARA National Championships in Hidden Valley, Pennsylvania. The winning coed team will receive $400 towards their 2010 USARA National Championship registration. The Black Bear Challenge is a slightly less intense 2-4 hour course for racers interested in an introduction to adventure racing. The Black Bear Challenge will not include paddling or water navigation. Racers should expect trail running, cross country travel, navigation, and mountain biking. 3rd annual Bust-A-Gut 5K • Missoula, Registration starts at 7:30 am (race day only) at the Oval on The University of Montana campus. Race fee is $10, which includes breakfast (before or after). Race begins at 9:00 am on the UM oval. The route continues from the oval over to and down the Kim Williams Trail to Orange Street and back. The corresponding Pancake Breakfast will be held at Christ the King Church on the corner of Beckwith and Gerald. Run for the Earth 10k, 5k & 1mile • Bozeman, start & finish will be in at Story Mansion located on the corner of Wilson & College.  Races begin at 10am. Race day registration will be from 8:45am-9:45am. Rocky Mountain Bank Summit Classic 5K/10K • Kalispell, RunStarts at 1pm at the Summit Medical Fitness Center. The Summit Classic is a 5-Kilometer and 10 Kilometer Walk/Jog/Run community event on the paved streets and trails surrounding The Summit. All ages and all abilities are invited to participate. This is a competitive event for the whole family. Participants who cross the finish line will receive an accurate finish time and a Rocky Mountain Bank Summit Classic T-shirt. Wounded Warriors Project • Helena, 10K, 5K & 1 Mile event & Trifecta.  Capital High School Student Council is putting on a Wounded Warriors Project 10K, 5K and 1 Mile event.  We will start from Northwest Park across from Capital High School at 8:45 am, for the 10K, 10:00 for the 5K and 10:45 for the 1 Mile. Vigilante Mile • Helena, 1 mile race starts at 9:00 am at the S. entrance of the State Capitol, on the 1300 block of Lockey.  New in 2010, the Vigilante Mile will be Helena’s first competitive off-track mile (runners of all speeds welcome).  The race consists of a single loop around the Capitol Complex on a sidewalk-like fitness path.  The course will be accurate, scenic, well-marked, and interesting, and should lend itself to some pretty quick times.  The mile is being organized by the Helena Vigilante Runners for the purpose of raising funds for the new historical society building.  This is a no-frills event, allowing us to keep race entries at just $10.  Registration begins at 8:30.  Results will be available promptly.  For planning purposes, RSVPs from potentially interested runners are appreciated. 29th Annual Montana Women’s Run • Billings, 2 Miles or 5 Miles…Run or Walk…all are timed with chip timing from Championship of the Rockies. Last year almost 7,000 women of all ages hit the streets on the day before Mother’s Day in mutual pursuit of health and fitness, camaraderie and medals! We gave over $60,000 back to the community divided among the Billings YWCA, Billings Clinic Women’s Wellness Fund, Billings Family YMCA, and scholarships at both Rocky Mountain College and MSU-Billings. Top 3 finishers in each race, as well as Masters and Super Masters (60+) receive special awards. Medals are 5 deep in 5-year age groups up to 90+. RRCA State Championship for women in the 2 Mile and 5 Mile Open, Masters and Grand Masters (50+). All entries receive a long sleeve, specially designed t-shirt. See our website. TNT Hiawatha Trail Run • Taft, (I-90 Montana/Idaho state line) The TNT (Tunnels N Trestles) Trail Run will be held on the Hiawatha trail located adjacent to I-90 at the Idaho/Montana state line. The course will run thought 10 tunnels and over 7 trestles with a distance of 28.2 miles. The path is made up of crushed granite also known as decomposed granite. The trail is fairly flat side to side and about 8 feet in width, a descent of 967 feet down to the turn around and 1000 feet of climbing back to the top for the finish. Participants will receive race support at aid stations throughout the course. The finishers will receive medals, shirts, and lunch will be available. 7:00 AM start, $85 Trail Run or $120 Team Run. 2nd Annual Montana Made Run • Missoula, Come out to McCormick Park in the heart of Missoula and start your Saturday right by participating. The race supports and features Montana Made Business and Products, with all proceeds raised go to the International Association of Firefighters Burn Foundation. Your choice: a 5K or 10K distance. Don't leave the kids at home either as the kids run is around McCormick Park before the adults run. Both the 5K and 10K are stroller and dog friendly, we just ask that the strollers and dogs line up at the rear of the pack and the dogs are on leashes. Both races will start and finish at McCormick Park adjacent to Currents. This run is open to all, racers and walkers. Race For This Place • White Sulphur Springs, The White Sulphur Springs Community Fund is kicking off the 4th annual Race For This Place fun run/walk. This race is about community support and fun, so runners and walkers of all abilities are welcome. This years race will benefit the Stevens Youth Center, a free afterschool program for Meagher county youth that includes gardening, cooking, arts and crafts, and games. The race will start at 7:30 AM with a 15k, 5K and 1M Run/Walk. The 5k and the 1 mile run/walk are an out and back course over the North fork of the Smith River and along highway 360. The 15k will be run on mostly dirt roads west of town. It is a scenic run through surrounding ranchland with spectacular views of the Big Belt and Castle Mountains. Participants and volunteers will receive a T-shirt, certificate, and goodies. Continental breakfast, award ceremony, and door prizes will be immediately following the race. 45th Augúst Road Race, Montana's Second Oldest Footrace • Helena. 3.8 mile point-to-point fast course (mostly dirt road). Starts at 7:15 PM at intersection of Head Ln. and Country Club Ave. $5 entry fee. Race day registration only (6:45 PM, near the starting line). All proceeds go to Helena youth cross-country programs. This is the ultimate, minimalist, no frills race -- who needs t-shirts, numbers, awards, or door prizes, when you can have fast times, friendly volunteers, quick results, and a warm feeling for supporting a worthy cause? .... Run The Big Hole • Wisdom--5k and 10k Walk and Run/ Proceeds Benefit Shriner's Children's Hospital/ Brew Fest with 8 Montana Microbreweries at Fetty's Bar and Cafe post race! Both the 5k and 10k walk and run begin at 10am at the American Legion Park, park in town and come on out!  You'll be running out and back on the Lower North Fork Road this year, you can't beat the view!  Finish is in front of Fetty's in the center of town, where you'll be greeted with a free beer of your choice!  Pre registration link on our website at www.bigholevalley.com/Run_The_Big_Hole.html.  Age groups 0-19, 20-29, 20-39, 40-49 and 50+.  Prizes for winners in each group plus the overall male and female winner.   $20 preregistration gets you a t-shirt and the 21+ runners a free beer at the finish line!  $25 registration fee day of race, from 8am-9am. Please arrive at American Legion Park before 9:30 to get your numbers!  This is our first annual Run The Big Hole Race, and we can't wait to see you!

(SHATS) Race #1 Goats in the Meadow • Helena, Little Blackfoot River Trailhead, 7.3 miles.  Directions to Little Blackfoot Trailhead 8 AM start. Run up to Little Backfoot Meadow on scenic, non-technical singletrack. Course has rolling hills with a net uphill on the way out, then downhill on the way back. You will cross the Blacfoot River twice, once with an opportunity to get your feet wet. Allow 1 hour to go to the trailhead from Helena. Parking is limited so we recommend carpooling. Quality of Life Run • Billings -- 2-mile walk/run and 5-mile run, both beginning at 8 a.m. Entry fee of $15 includes a t-shirt and commemorative bag for the first 500 registrants. This event will benefit Friendship House, which provides enrichment programs for youth from low income families, primarily in an after-school setting. Big Mountain Trail Run • Whitefish, Run or hike the Danny On Trail, climbing  2,200 vertical feet in 3.8 miles to the summit of Big Mountain. to benefit the Glacier Nordic Ski Team..   NEW THIS YEAR- Dogs are invited to race (with a human) with prizes for fastest Dam and Sire.  Dogs must be on a leash.  Event participants will be allowed to ride the lift down for free, otherwise round-trip tickets are available for $10 (or a 09/10 winter season pass).   No dogs on the lift. Awards:  Fastest adults (King and Queen), juniors (Prince and Princess), dogs (Dam and Sire)  Birthday club – finish in a time less than your age for men and age plus 10 minutes for women and receive a cupcake. Start: 9:15 am,  start at the Danny On Trailhead in the Upper Village (near Hellroaring Saloon), runners/hikers with dogs will start at 9:25.  Awards: ceremony on Summit House deck immediately following the race.  Registration and Fees:  First 50 registrants will receive a free water bottle.  Pre-register by August 19th or register day of  8:00 - 8:45 am at the Danny On Trailhead.  Trailhead located in the Upper Village, next to the Hellroaring Saloon.  $10 per individual, $20 per family,  $5 Juniors (16 and under).   Visit glaciernordicclub.com for a race application  or email blakegray@centurytel.net.
